Savaterre 2024 Pinot Noir
2024 - What a year!
It didn’t seem extraordinary from a growing point of view but the results are outstanding and speak for themselves.
After rejecting all the 2023 Savaterre reds as not being up to standard (and being tipped down the drain) this is a pleasing outcome. I have never released a Pinot Noir so young but I feel the harmony of this wine is exactly where I want it.
It is destined for a promising future.
The 2024 Savaterre is an immensely seductive wine of great definition and complexity. The aroma alone will have you at “hello”.
Is this the best Pinot Noir I have ever made?
Certainly it’s a contender with the 2022. And it looks fantastic this young. While not the most powerful rendition of Pinot Noir we have produced it’s just so intricate, detailed, seductive and complex. More Burgundy than Australia.
Tasting Notes -
The aroma leaps from the glass. Lifted ethereal, rose petal, raspberry, red cherry, blueberry, violets, exotic spice, white truffle and a slight herbaceous wet brambles undergrowth character.
Balanced and complex on the palate. It’s difficult to define any one flavour. It's vibrant and lively with an intensity that impresses, an intricate fusion of fruit flavours tempered with fine tannins and a long acid spine.
A seamless harmonious wine of great weight and complexity.

"Very lifted and perfumed, with notes of dark cherries, dried herbs, tobacco and truffles. The palate is medium-bodied with focused acidity and integrated tannins, giving nots of potporri, orange rind and cedar. A true pinot noir with all the character that people want from the top pinots around the world. Excellent. Rated: 97 Points"

"From a long cool vintage, and Keppell Smith says 'There's bugger all of it'. The wine will be labelled 'Reserve' only when the year is good enought...
Aromatic, spicy, lots of savoury complexity here and autumnal character aplenty, pencil/cedar oak, flickers of liquorice root emerge with air. Mix of red cherry and red fruits, an earthy leaf litter character, light, fresh, gently sappy, tannins are subtle and buried in the wine, some blood orange in the mix. Excellent length. Such character. I'd say it's the best Pinot Noir they've released to date. Rated: 96 Points"

"Keppell Smith makes world class pinot noir and chardonnay. His Savaterre Pinot Noir Reserve is the ultimate pinot drinker's pinot"

"Ready for its close-up, this 2022 reserve pinot carries itself most elegantly. The scent seduces in spices, forest and red fruits, red licorice, fennel and dried herbs. Gently fleshy and compact, 18 months maturation in French oak has brought added concentration and resolve. However, still a pup, still in building mode and ready for extra time in bottle, if you have the time. Rated: 96 Points"
