2002 Savaterre Pinot NoirSOLD OUT

"Enough scent to make your head spin. Violets, cherries, dried sweet tobacco, earth and anise and five spice. In the mouth it's terrifically dry and verietal, yet still boasts a rummage of sweet, perfumed, floral fruit - its gorgeous. Drink now - 2008. 94 points"
Campbell Mathinson, Winefront Monthly: Nov / Dec 2003
"The homage to Burgundy is certainly evident in this stunning wine. Dewy rose petals, reminiscent of a Chambolle Musigny, mix with a distinctive minerality and hints of truffle and leather, to form layer upon layer of complexity on the nose. The palate has elegance and power, with subtle fruit and silky, silky tannins. Stunning."
Sally Gudgeon, Divine Food and Wine, Dec/ Feb 2004

The most structured, complex, ethereal, intense, age worthy pinot noir I have ever made. Just a wonderful year!

Tasting Notes:

Brilliant deep crimson.

The most powerful and seductive aromas of pinot noir. Morello Cherries, violets, rose petal, anise, five spice, dried sweet tobacco combine with an earthy, white truffle aroma that just continues to evolve in the glass, continually revealing more and more scent and complexity - enough to make your head spin.

Perfectly ripened flavours of pinot noir are balance by beautiful natural acidity and silky grape tannins. I find it too difficult (and perhaps a little meaningless) to describe the flavours and texture of this wine as there are so many elements competing for one's attention. This is further complicated by the continual evolution of these flavours and fragrances in the glass as the wine breathes.

A wonderful meal lifts this wine into top gear and the aroma, texture, intensity and length of Savaterre Pinot Noir is truly enjoyed.

This is a wine of longevity and while young should be decanted for at least one hour prior to enjoyment. Allow the wine to come up to room temperature as this will amplify the wonderful aromas.

All grapes under this label are sourced exclusively from the Savaterre Vineyard in Beechworth. The wine was matured for approximately 2 years in the very best French oak barriques.

Unfiltered. Store at 14C.
